This 1952 BSA Spitfire Motorcycle was built by Robert Eller of the Dirt Diggers. Bob bequeathed it to the SoCal AMCA. Most of the pieces he bought for this bike came from a place called Jack Baldwins Shop in Santa Monica. He was a BSA, Matchless, Triumph, Montessa, shop and highly respected over the years. Sonny Nutter was good friends with Bob Eller and witnessed the building of this machine over several years. I do not know if this bike was ever raced, Sonny said he never saw Bob ride it. Bob was involved with course set-up and race preparation in general in many of the Dirt Diggers desert events. It must be emphasized that all the motor plates, fender mounts, oil tank, manifold, exhaust system, folding foot pegs, front brake stay, and seat where all hand made. This machine also has a special WADER LUCAS racing mag and it has cams and higher compression than normal. This bike runs extremely strong for a 650!
The front brake is a double leading shoe assembly from a ’71-’72 CB 350 Honda which works very well. It also has a 35mm CERIANI front end. The 34mm carburetors were available from a supplier called SUDCO. The only thing missing is basically the air cleaners. The fuel tank is also made of alloy.

Looks as if it is original. The paint shows well and is as found by SoCal.

Runs great, Mag is super hot! This machine was just tuned by Walt Riddle in Winnetka, CA. Walt fell in love with this machine and has identified all of the components. The bike runs straight and smooth. It will easily lift the front end in the lower gears. Walt tuned the carbs (dual Mukini) and set up the enrichiners. The bike fires on first kick for the informed rider. Tires are new from the era. Good year Grasshopper 400 X 19 and Pirelle 400-19MT 53 (I will not separate them from the package).
