This is a 1953 Indian Chief motorcycle, one of the last real Indian motorcycles built. 1953 only saw 350 (or so) motorcycles built at the factory as it closed down with the majority going to the New York Police Department. This motorcycle was purchased by the current owner in 2020 and he has put less than 20 miles on it. Limited history of the bike prior to purchase other than to know that the bike had been fully restored. This motorcycle is titled and registered in the state of New York.
ENGINE: 1,300cc (79.84ci) flathead air-cooled 4-stroke 42-degree V-twin, 3-1/4in x 4-11/16in bore and stroke, 6.5:1 compression ratio, 50hp at 4,800rpm (American Motorcycling, December 1952).
TOP SPEED: 92 mph (period test).
CARBURATION: Single Amal Type 6.
TRANSMISSION: 3-speed, left-hand shift, left-foot clutch, chain final drive.
MILEAGE: 1 mile showing on the odometer. Unknown mileage on the restoration.
PAINT: Nontraditional paint color and paint scheme that shows very nicely. No known scratches or blemishes noted.
SHEET METAL: Original Indian Chief sheet metal that is well fit. No dings or dents noted. All sheet metal noted as correct for 1953 Chief including dash, footboards, engine cover and front bonnet.
CHROME: Correct use of chrome and all chrome is bright and shiny no deficiencies noted.
MECHANICAL: This is an excellent running machine. Easy start and smooth through the gears. Unknown the drive train was rebuilt.
WHEELS & TIRES: Rims are chromed steel with chrome spokes and nipples.
