Barn Find — Completely Restored!!
Great looking and running 1946 Indian Chief built for the highway! Meticulous work went into this bike. This was a Kansas barn-find totally rebuilt from frame up. Has a 1947 (not 1946) 74 cu. in. engine stroked to 80 cu. in. (1376 cc) by Indian guru Randy Zorn of Long Island, NY. Has Bonneville cams and lifters, M344 Linkert up-sized by the experts at Into the Wilderness specifically for this 80 in. engine, solid copper head gaskets, nickel plated polished head bolts and washers, Kevlar clutch plates.
Engine was opened and checked by Indian engine expert James Solberg, found to meet specs., then installed by James Solberg adding electronic ignition (no points), a 2016 Kiwi electric starter and a 2016 Frank Byford 4-speed (SN 15820). Also has a Cycle Electrics 12-volt generator, and an Antigravity (brand) lithium battery that kicks over this monster engine easily with its whopping 640 CCA!
Just broken in at about 500 miles.
Other great features include a custom seat by Heather’s Leathers with owner-provided heavy and highest quality Latigo leather skirt, extra-long fringe, Harley rail, and owner-provided seven heavy and solid silver First Phase Navajo Indian large conchos hand wrought and hand punched by Navajo Indians between 1900-1910 from pure silver ingot (not from coin like later conchos!) with original Navajo leather backings. Conchos are valued on market at $5,000.00.
Conchos are secured from cutting off with stainless steel straps hidden under their black leather attachment straps. Silver conchos are removable for cleaning or polishing if you know the secret trick. Silver conchos have been coated with Corricone 1700 to prevent tarnishing. Theme is completed with old and genuine Navajo Indian wool rug in excellent condition mounted as a bedroll ($700.00 market value). The Navajo rug “bedroll” is wrapped over a heavy-duty rainproof motorcycle cover for your use.
And more: Near black-blue paint matched to 1930’s Packard Blue by TPC Global (autocolorlibrary.com) from original factory color swatch in PPG DELFLEET FBC and cleared with DC3000 sprayed by professional auto restorer. Note that color is actually much blacker than appears in the photos. Color is very close to Indian Police Blue (which is argued whether or not it was a real 1946 option).
Chain guard on the bike is a reproduction customized with a quick access panel for the starter sprag clutch. Bike comes with the original chain guard which is also painted Packard Blue.
Has Buchanan SS spokes, powder coated original frame and original steel rims, oversize but stock option 4-gallon tanks in welded steel by Iron Horse Corral for your safety with liner coatings. The original 1946 tanks go with the bike. A 1948 style front side stand was added. Has original rear side stand and a new center stand. Center stand does have a piece of its cast attachment broken off frame but it still works. Original fenders and Moto Lamp bucket (sealed beam now). Bike’s original speedometer worked until 99 miles after the rebuild then stopped – don’t know why. Original miles on odometer at time of rebuild completion and start of service: 03780. 99 miles added. Then an illuminated retro dial GPS speedometer was added to the Hollywood bar, accurate to the mile, and displaying odometer, trip, time elapsed, GPS coordinates, compass heading and more. This required the installed 8mm DYNA DW-800 silicone suppression core ignition wires to avoid interference with the GPS signal.
