Overview

This 1928 Indian 101 Scout Motorcycle (DGP) is a pedigreed motorcycle from the Harry V Sucher collection, Harry V Sucher. Harry’s main avocation which he pursued all his life was finding, restoring, and riding antique motorcycles. He wrote the definitive histories of the Indian and Harley – Davidson motorcycles and has been called the foremost American motorcycle historian. He was one of the early members of the Antique Motorcycle Club of America, SoCal Chapter.

Harry had this 101 Scout in the weeds in his back yard in Garden Grove, CA. Johnny Eagles was commissioned to pull the bike from the entanglement of the weeds and restore it. This was the first of many motorcycles that Johnny Eagles restored for Harry. Harry and John made many trips across country on their matching 101 Scouts. This particular scout was Harry’s favorite ride. John had to make a few parts for it during the original restoration because parts were not available. John says that bikes were not restored to factory perfection back then and this bike was built for the intended duty it was to receive over the years. Harry mentioned this bike and Johnny’s build many times in The Iron Redskin. The original find of this bike by Harry is unknown and still being researched. The family has had this bike in storage prior to Harry’s passing in 2009. Johnny Eagles has just completed a service and tune-up of this fine motorcycle and it is ready for riding and show by its next curator.

Mileage

Working speedometer indicates 7490 total miles on the restoration. 20 miles applied since the Eagles tune-up.

Paint

The original restoration paint and striping by Johnny Eagles has held up well. The bike could use a careful polishing in place of a repaint. It has a few chips from road use, especially on the luggage rack and the gas tank. Decision was made to leave it as Harry left it for the next curator. Decals are exact to what Johnny Eagles has on his 101 Scout.

Sheet Metal

Sheet metal is original material and of excellent fit and finish. Minimal dings if any. The luggage rack is a custom manufacture by Eagles.

Chrome

Minimal chrome but well done and bright and shiny.

Mechanical

This engine is mechanically sound with an original rebuild/restoration by Johnny Eagles followed by a recent tune-up by the same. This is a first kick mag powered start and it runs flawlessly through the gears. This machine is magneto powered with a generator and battery to supply the lights. Johnny will reveal the build components and size to the new owner.

Wheels & Tires

Tires are early production Dunlop Gold 350 X 18 fitted on a painted rim with painted spokes. Minimal miles showing on the tread.
