The only Hedstrom engine model made after Indian switched over to the Powerplus engine in 1916. This 1917 Indian Twin B-17 bike is so rare, even the late Harry Sucher, author of the definitive book on Indian, “The Iron Redskin” was unaware of their existence. Engine, transmission, magneto, and proper Hedstrom carburetor completely rebuilt by legendary engine builder John Eagles, arguably the best Hedstrom builder in America. The bike is completely and correctly restored. All sheet metal is original and in excellent shape. Bike has the optional Acetylene headlight. This bike is extremely rare, and of the three years it was manufactured (1916, 17 and 18) only three examples are known to exist. This is one of the three. The bike has only been cranked once and ridden to the end of the block and back. It has been on display in my house ever since. Something that makes this bike even rarer and more desirable is that it was manufactured in Indian’s Canadian plant in Toronto, and has the Toronto designation on the fuel tank instead of the normal Springfield designation.
A copy of an Indian catalog that was notated as an “English Colony” edition and shows the 1918 version of this bike is included in the sale and attests to this fine machine’s heritage.
