1970 Honda CL100 Scrambler

The 1970 Honda CL100 is a lightweight, four-stroke, single-cylinder motorcycle designed as a scrambler, blending street and light off-road capabilities. Produced from 1970 to 1973, it featured a 99cc engine producing 11.5 horsepower, allowing for a top speed around 55–70 mph, depending on the model and rider weight.

Key Specifications:

  • Engine: 99cc, single-cylinder, OHC, air-cooled

  • Transmission: 5-speed manual with chain drive

  • Brakes: Front and rear drum brakes

  • Electrical System: 6-volt

  • Weight: Approximately 220 lbs (100 kg)

  • Fuel Capacity: 1.9 US gallons (7 liters)

Design Features:

  • Exhaust: High-mounted chrome exhaust with heat shield

  • Instrumentation: Speedometer with neutral indicator, high-beam warning, and odometer

  • Colors (1970): Candy Sapphire Blue, Candy Ruby Red, Candy Topaz Orange

The CL100 was also available in a detuned version, the CL100S, which reduced power to 5 horsepower to comply with certain state restrictions for younger riders, limiting top speed to about 50 mph

Notably, the CL100 inspired the creation of the "Suitcase Cycle," a foldable motorcycle designed by Lawrence Shapiro to fit into an aircraft's luggage compartment, catering to pilots needing ground transportation upon landing

Today, well-preserved CL100s are considered collectible, with values increasing due to their classic status and limited availability .
