Overview
This is a 45” 1942 Harley-Davidson XA motorcycle. There were only 1000 of them produced during the war at the direction of the government procurement office. The horizontally opposed BMW and Zundap were performing quite well in the North African desert and the allies wanted to be on equal ground. Harley’s answer from the Experimental Department was the XA model, a 45 cubic inch horizontally opposed side-valve twin with shaft drive and four-speed foot-operated gearbox with hand clutch control.
